The Rural Park (agricultural farm bio ecological certified) is included into an area of enviromental guardianship (SIC – Site of Community Interest - and ZPS – Site of Special Preserve), whose extension is the Carso Highland; the Altopiano del Carso is wellknown from an archeological point of view due to the phenomenon of the carsismo (Karstic phenomenon) and from an historical one for the First World War. The Rural Park extends itsself from Italy, through the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, to Slovenia keeping in both Countries the same charateristics but suggesting different particular places to visit.

Following an ipotethic itinerary through the Altopiano it would take at least “one week” to be able to know all the principal and important charateristics of our beloved Carso.

After having enjoed the reality of the Rural Park of the “Alture di Polazzo”, the near Natural Reserve of Doberdò Lakes and Pietrarossa with its karstic museum visit centre of Gradina, you have to take a visit to the coast of this area, which is characterised by fiords of calcareous rocks ending in the sea, creeks and bays as the Sistiana Bay and the Duino Bay. These costs deserves to be admired from the sea renting a sailboat to make a romantic excursion.

The Miramare Castle, with its park, and the Duino Castle, starting point of the panoramic path entitled to the poet Rainer Maria Rilke (author of the Elegie Duinesi - Duino elegies) in the inner area of the Riserva Narurale delle Falesie di Duino – Natural Reserve of the Falesie in Duino - are for sure important destinations of the coast belt.

Once you have visited the coast, you can reach the asburgic city of Triest, for which you should take the whole day free, the San Giusto Castle, the roman amphitheater, Piazza Unità and all the museums of the city.

By now you have to come back to the Highland and reach the biggest turistic cavity in the world, the Grotta Gigante/the gigantic cave, which could be able to contain the Basilica of San Pietro. In a little village, a few kilometers from the cave, you will find the botanical garden La Carsiana, from which you can have an “introduction” to the flora of the near Riserva Naturale della Val Rosandra – Val Rosandra natural Reserve, whose main characteristic is to have the only superficial river of the Carso, the Rosandra torrent.

Nothing can deny you the pleasure to visit the amazing destinations of Slovenia, first of all the Park Skocjanske Jame (San Canziano caves park), which are included since 1986 in the world UNESCO resources; you can go up again to the Highland, back to the starting point, visiting other places like Lipica resort – well known for its training school for the Lipica horses -, Stanjel the most ancient medieval Borgo (village) of the Carso, villages such as Volcji Grad, Gorjansko, Sveto and Temnica which have mantained the architectonic characteristics of the karstic houses.

There is a part of the Carso Highland which is sadly known due to the First World War, there are places such as the Sacrario di Redipuglia (Redipuglia War Memorial), San Martino del Carso, the Museum of San Michele, the Cirje Museum in Lokvica which all toghether remind to the sad experience of the Great War, collecting all the memories of those events and creating the net of paths of the Open Museum of the Grande Guerra (Great War) on the Carso.

But if you are lucky and have the possibility to plan a “two week holiday” or you are enjoying once again the Rural Park, there are other destinations which can be reached from our Farm in a relative short time: you can take a visit to the sandy coasts of Grado Island (30 Km), Lignano (80 Km), the rocky coasts of Istria with its seaside resorts Pirano (45 Km), Portorose (45 Km), Rovigno (60 Km), Pola (80 Km). There are also the other resorts of the Pianura Friulana (Friuli valley) such as Udine (35 Km), Cividale del Friuli (30 Km), Aquileia (20 Km), Palmanova (20 Km), Gorizia (15 Km), etc.

It is also very easy, from our Rural Park, to reach the city of Ljubljana (100 Km), taking the highway, just lately finished, from Gorizia or Triest and the city of Venice (100 Km), by taking the train from the near Monfalcone Station.
