Nature 2000 Network is a co-ordinated and coherent system of areas intended for the bio variety preserve. It means a real “ecological net” created by “nodes” – the SIC and ZPS sites – which are combined through ecological aisles. The “nodes” of this net are based on the presence of particular habitats and on different flora (vegetation life) and fauna (animal life) species, which are of great wildlife conservation interest, particularly vulnerable. The creation of this net can assure the continuance of migratory movements, genetic flows of the several species and provides to ensure the long term vitality of the natural habitats.
SIC are “important community sites”, which are intended for the preservation of habitats and flora and fauna species with a “community relevance”, its reference is the “Habitat Directive”. ZPS are “special preserve areas”, which are particularly intended for the preservation of birds and are regulated by the “Birds Directive”.
SIC and ZPS match completely or in great measure.
The “Birds Directive” is intended to preserve all the living wild birds species on the European territory, while the “Habitat Directive” is intended to preserve some particular natural or semi natural habitats and some flora and fauna species, which are of European interest. Every directive has attachments such as lists of several flora, fauna or habitats which are under different protection level.
